Eye Candies: Jean Phillipe Patisserie

Yes oh yes, we made it to the Fabulous Las Vegas. One week after the hub's surprised surgery, we decided to head to Vegas. It was purely a spur of the moment. Since he had to stay home for another week and he felt much better, why not recover in Las Vegas??? Our plan was to space out a bit and go later this year but we just couldn't wait so there we went.

We booked everything again 4 days before the trip. Luckily, I mostly packed and prepared since last time so we were somewhat prepared and ready to go. Before the trip, I did extensive research on food. Other than gambling, Vegas is very famous for gourmet food, beautiful presentation and lavishly decorated hotels. I jotted down my plan and Jean Phillipe Patisserie made it to the list based on rave reviews on TripAdvisor and Yelp. So why not, right? We visited both venues at Bellagio Hotel and Aria Hotel.

Be prepared for some eye candies. Trust me because I really mean it. Warning: avoid this post if you are diabetic because these pictures may send your blood sugar up through the root!! My verdict: I guess we do not have that "sophisticated" palate because they didn't really blow us away except for beautiful presentation. They were good and light though. I wanted to try crepe but decided not to. Maybe next time.

Blue..Blue..Blueberry Pie~*

 photo b5_zps861fffde.jpg

Fresh and plump blueberries are yummy and they scream "antioxidant" and "healthy" How about sugar, pie crust and some butter too? They make perfect combination. It totally is a wonderful marriage/blend/explosion of flavors in your mouth and a pretty presentation for your eyes. Each warm, savory and gooey bite of blueberry pie will send your taste bud to heaven over and over again. It is addictive you have to lie to yourself that it is healthy so it is okay to eat more and perhaps a little bit more!

My husband had been wanting to try a homemade blueberry pie for quite some time so as soon as he was discharged from a hospital last week, I thought this pie would delight a poor man who had his appendix removed and got screwed on Vegas plan. Sure enough it was a pure delight!

Gathering ingredients for this pie was a breeze. Not to mention how easy it was to prep and bake. It is one of the simplest and easiest recipes i have tried, and totally adore. It is great as a based fruit pie recipe when it comes to berries family. I am thinking Strawberry Pie next. What I love most about this recipe is that it is light and only requires very few ingredients, nothing fancy. Less is more proves to be true in many cases. I belive that a good fruit pie should not be too sugary to the point sugar overwhelms the flavor and freshness of fruit.

I slightly modified this recipe, here is my version:

3/4 cup white sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Mix sugar, starch and sprinkle over blueberries.
  3. Line pie dish with one pie crust. Pour berry mixture into the crust, and dot with butter. Cut remaining pastry into 1/2 - 3/4 inch wide strips, and make lattice top. Crimp and flute edges.
  4. Bake pie on lower shelf of oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

Vegas' Dream gone wrong~*

Things just don't always go as planned and illness can strike when we least expect. Just five days after riding a ride of a lifetime in a little Lambo, the hub landed in a hospital due to an appenditiis. We were jokingly said it must have been a Lambo ride, it was so bumpy and cuased his interal organs especially an appendix to act up...Ha (well not really funny then).

We were supposed to fly to the Sin City of Las Vegas last Thursday and have a blast.

A flight to Las Vegas - checked.

A room at Bellagio Hotel - reserved.

A car rental - booked.

A fun-filled itinerary - planned.

We all know life is full of surprises, good and bad ways. On Tuesday, my husband came down severe abdominal pain. An emergency room we went. As of 10pm that night, we found out he has an appendicitis. Since this place is a stand alone emergency care which is not in a hospital facility, we had to wait for an ambulance to transport him over to the nearest hospital.

After spending two days and two nights in a hospital, we were MORE than ready to come home. A sleeping arrangement for relatives was nothing close to comfortable. My back hurted terribly for 3 days!!! Luckily mother in law lended a hand and watched our little one while I took care of my husband at the hospital. We couldn't be happier to finally get to come home and reunite with a little one on Thursday. His recovery has been well.

Although we were highly disappointed for the fact that Vegas' getaway ended up in a wrong place, it would be much worse if this happened while we were in Vegas. Now we are back to square one and hopefully can plan another getaway sooner or later. Fingers crossede this time around.
