Going Bananas (in a good way)

Yes, I have been going bananas as of late, not that I am mildly crazy though (maybe I am??). In the past few months, I have come to terms with sugar intake (not that I have diabetes,  finger crossed). I read that excessive sugar consumption can really take a toll on our skin especially on women so you bet how an aging woman like myself reacted to that statement.  Having extra inches around my waistline doesn't bother me as much as spotting wrinkles on my face (crazy but true). Not that my skin is as tight as baby's bottoms but any natural remedy/prevention that can delay an aging process I will gladly try.

So now you know a little story behind my love for banana. Some health experts may argue that banana is as bad or worse than a cupcake in terms of sugar. Screw whatever they say. I firmly believe it is still much healthier that a cupcake made with shortening, refined sugar plus unknown additives. I would rather opt for an all natural banana that has beneficial vitamins and mineral (as long as you don't gobble down 5 bananas per day).

It is challenging to cut sweets entirely from my life but I have noticed how my body is getting used to a new clean eating habit. Hence i do not crave sweets as much as before. I can go one week without Frozen yogurt, cupcake and etc now. Whenever my sweet sensation hits, I reach out to this super easy to make treats. Every ingredient is as natural as you can get plus no sugar is needed. I also substitute oil with unsweetened apple sauce and it comes out as great. You simply taste sweetness from banana itself which suffices. I've found a few recipes for this {here} and modified to my liking, plus I make a smaller batch.

1 Banana / 1 cup of Oatmeal / 1/4 cup of Dried Cranberries / 1/4 cup of Walnut / 1/4 cup of Apple Sauce

Mix everything together and let it sit for 15 mins

Scoop and drop in a baking pan

Bake for 20-30 minutes

  1. i had no clue about bananas vs. cupcakes in terms of sugar! i love bananas and have it with almost everything - toast, ice cream, pancakes. This is such a nice treat to make - i love mixing things with nuts. the crunchiness makes me so much more delicious :)

  2. I don't care what the experts say a banana is still better than a cupcake no matter the sugar level since it's fruit sugar as opposed to refined sugar which is the one that's responsible for aging our skin. I cut sugar out many years ago and you really don't miss it once you don't have it anymore. I love the simplicity of this recipe as well as the healthy ingredients.

  3. Those look so good! I didn't know bananas had that much sugar in them. WOW! I eat one maybe three times a week, if that! I think anything in moderation is ok.
